Privacy Policy

Short version: EmDee does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Your files never leave your device.
The application
EmDee is a local Markdown file viewer available for Windows, Linux, and Android. It runs entirely on your device and requires no account, login, or internet connection to function.
Data we do not collect
EmDee does not collect, transmit, or store:
- The contents of any files you open
- File names or paths
- Usage analytics or crash reports
- Device identifiers
- Location data
- Any personally identifiable information
File access
EmDee requests access to files solely to display their contents within the app. Files are read locally on your device and are never uploaded, shared, or processed on any external server.
On Android, EmDee uses the system file picker. Only the file you explicitly select is accessed.
Local storage
EmDee stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Your theme preference (Light, Dark, or Sepia)
- Your font size preference
- A list of recently opened file paths (desktop only), stored in your device's local app settings
This data never leaves your device and can be cleared by uninstalling the application.
Network requests
The EmDee application itself makes no network requests. It operates fully offline.
This website
The EmDee website (this page) uses a self-hosted visitor counter to track page views. This counter records a hit when the page is loaded but does not store cookies, fingerprint your browser, or collect personally identifiable information.
Download links point to GitHub Releases. GitHub may log download requests in accordance with GitHub's Privacy Statement.
Children's privacy
EmDee does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Changes will only ever reflect the app's continued commitment to collecting no personal data.
